Separate tickets: check the actual route
First check the next operating airline, flight terminal/date, entry eligibility and through-check/baggage arrangement. International to domestic follows immigration, baggage collection and customs, then recheck and domestic security; hand baggage alone does not remove Japan-entry requirements. Separate reservations need separate check-in; do not assume protected connections or automatic baggage transfer. ANA domestic Haneda baggage closes 30 minutes before departure from September 2026; domestic gate guidance is 10 minutes. ANA international check-in/baggage deadline is 60 minutes and gate-arrival guidance 30 minutes. At T3 ANA Domestic Transfer Counter the procedure cutoff is 60 minutes for T2 domestic departures; outside counter hours use T2 Counter 14.
Confirm bags and boarding passes
Ask each airline whether bags are checked through and where the next boarding pass is issued. Have the bag-drop, check-in and boarding deadlines for your onward flight.
Allow for the full route
Include arrival delays, border control, baggage reclaim, terminal travel, bag drop and security. This guide does not calculate a safe connection time or promise missed-flight protection; check your booking terms.
Visa & entry
For HND public-lobby entry, follow the international arrival procedure: relevant quarantine, immigration, checked-bag reclaim and customs. For eligible international transit remain on the prescribed airport transit route; changing terminals follows airport transfer instructions and destination security/transfer facility. Public hotel/landside access requires entry permission; T3 transit hotel has a separate itinerary and boarding-pass restriction.
